My Birthday Wish!

Today is my 35th birthday (gah!) and the only thing I ask is for you to help me fight breast cancer again this year.

This will be my third year doing the 3-Day - totaling 180 miles walked!

So please support me as I train and get back into walking shape.  Since I'm recovering from foot surgery it's going to be a tough year for training but I think all the extra hard training will make it that much more of an experience.  It's an honor to be a part of this event and every year it's a new adventure full of wonderful experiences (and rain, haha).

Did you know:

• breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of death among women worldwide.
• More than 1.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year.

Last year fund-raising was tough.  People were nervous about the economy -and rightfully so.  This year I'm asking for donations early. I'd like to get close to the $4000 mark like I did on my first year.  We can raise this money.  I know we can.

Donations in multiples of small amounts really add up.  Can you give $10 per month for 4 months?  How about $20?  The monthly donation is very useful tool and a great way to spread out your donation over time so that your wallet doesn't feel much lighter on a month to month basis.

What is Menu for Hope?

Menu for Hope is an annual fundraising campaign hosted by me and a revolving group of food bloggers around the world.  Five years ago, the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia inspired me to find a way to help, and the very first Menu for Hope was born. The campaign has since become a yearly affair.

Each December, food bloggers from all over the world join the campaign by offering a delectable array of food-related items for the Menu for Hope raffle. Anyone – and that means you too - can buy raffle tickets to bid on these items. For every $10 donated, you earn one virtual raffle ticket to bid on an item of your choice. At the end of the two-week campaign, the raffle tickets are drawn and the results announced on Chez Pim on Monday, January 18.

Who is the beneficiary of this year's campaign?


Menu for Hope (for three years and counting) supports the good work of the UN World Food Programme.  WFP is the world’s largest food aid agency, working with over 1,000 other organizations in over 75 countries. In addition to providing food, the World Food Program helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good. 

In the last two campaigns, we helped support a school lunch program in Lesotho.  This year we're changing our direction a tiny bit.  We're highlighting a new initiative at the WFP called Purchase for Progress (P4P).  P4P enables smallholder and low-income farmers to supply food to WFP’s global operation.  P4P helps farmers improves farming practices and puts more cash directly into their pockets in return for their crops.  This will also help buoy local economy by creating jobs and income locally.  We food bloggers understand the importance of buying locally and supporting our local farms, P4P helps do the same for farmers in low income countries around the world. 

Basically, you go donate to the cause then go bid on an prize that really appeals to you.  For every $10 you donate you get the opportunity to bid on another prize!

Small donations are great too - every dollar helps!  Lots of small donations add up - plus you can sign up for a 3 month donation (for example: $10 per month for three months).  It's for such a good cause!!

60-mile Breast Cancer Walk - fundraising yarn raffle!!

Once again I've taken the plunge and signed up for the 3-Day Breast Cancer walk here in Boston.  It is a 60-mile walk that is spread over a three day weekend in July.  This will be my second time participating in the walk.  Last year's experience was amazing and encompassed so many emotions.  I met so many wonderful people - walking, supporting and volunteering!

This year I'd like to do a fund raising raffle for all my knitting friend who support my walk!! Your donations will go into a raffle for some really great yarn!

Last month when I posted about needing knitted items to give the residents of a local shelter I got a response from a lovely lurker named Chu.  She was living in Georgia and had knit up all these wonderful knits that she probably wasn't going to use much (being Georgia and all) and could she donate them for the shelter.  Of course! 

Well.  She donated a whole box of her lovely and knit scarves and hats!  Check them out:
